My extensive personal experience can support you if your organisation:
is in need of a comprehensive review of governance procedures and documentation to ensure Charity Commission compliance
wants or needs to develop its charitable objects
would benefit from a complete strategic review involving all stakeholders, development of a new strategy, implementation and periodic reviews
needs support to resolve internal and external communications challenges
My relevant expertise:
2002 -2016: Chief Executive of the Ernest Cook Trust. As CEO of one of the UK’s leading education charities, I was responsible for all areas of operation of this large, land-owning educational charitable trust and its three core activities: grant-giving, educational work on its estates and land management.
I increased annual grant-giving from £600,000 to £1.8m and initiated and developed the Trust’s educational work from scratch. Last year, more than 30,000 children were welcomed on to the Trust’s estates to ‘learn from the land’ from a professional outdoor education team.
Trustee of The Country Trust and committee member of four national professional charitable organisations
Former Rural Enterprise adviser to the National Trust and past Chairman of Gloucestershire branch of the CLA
School Governor; committee chairman
1992 – 2002: Land agent at Berkeley and Spetchley Estates. Established two charitable Trusts; appointed Trustee of both, as well as reforming and modernising a very complex ownership structure, eradicating debt and reversing loss-making operations.
1985 – 1992: Trained as a Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor (Land Agent – RICS)
1974 – 1985: Served in the Royal Navy. Culminating in the command of a coastal warship.
